Matoaya's eldest son succeeded him about the throne of Tallo, but as Chancellor, he experienced evidently groomed his amazing second son, Karaeng Pattingalloang (1600–54), who exercised that placement from 1639 until his Demise. Pattingalloang must have been partly educated by Portuguese, considering the fact that as an adult he spoke Portuguese
